Rotary International Convention opens in Taipei

Global gathering welcomes Rotary members from 140 countries and is expected to generate NT$1.578–1.735 billion in local economic impact.

TAIPEI (14 June 2026) — More than 37,000 Rotary members and participants from over 140 countries are gathering at Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center and the Taipei Dome from 13-17 June 2026 for the membership service organization’s annual international convention.

This marks the first time in 32 years that Taipei has hosted the Rotary International Convention, bringing together Rotary members from more than 140 countries for a highly meaningful occasion.

In his welcoming remarks at the opening ceremony during the morning session, President Lai Ching-te thanked Taiwan Rotary members for bringing the world to Taiwan. “Let’s work together to Do Good in the World. In our commitment to peace, public health, environmental sustainability, humanitarian aid, and beyond, Taiwan will continue to walk hand in hand with Rotarians worldwide. Together, we will foster a more connected world through goodwill, and shape the future through action.”

While addressing the afternoon session, Chiang Wan-an, the mayor of Taipei highlighted the close relationship that Taipei has forged with Rotary International over the years. “The Taipei City Government places great importance to this convention,” he points out. “We have devoted significant resources, from convention promotion and venue preparation to local transportation support and enhanced security measures, to ensure that every international visitor to Taipei can feel our most sincere welcome and experience the most comprehensive service while they explore our city.”

This week, attendees will connect with one another and learn new ways to advance health, peace, and prosperity around the world. More than one hundred humanitarian projects will be on display at TaiNEX 1, giving a firsthand look at innovative, long-term solutions to the world’s most persistent challenges. Members and participants will also hear from a range of experts and world class speakers – including Nobel Peace Laureate Malala Yousafzai.

On Sunday, 14 June at the Taipei Dome, the convention will open with a flag presentation of the 200 countries and regions where Rotary clubs serve their communities. “Rotary conventions are powerful moments of unity, where people from every corner of the world come together to connect, celebrate service and exchange ideas for a healthier, more peaceful future,” said Rotary International President Francesco Arezzo. “We are proud to gather our global Rotary family in Taipei, and it is a pleasure to reconnect with old friends and make new ones as we celebrate the impact of our work in communities around the world.”

As one of the largest international association conventions ever held in Taipei, the event is expected to inject NT$1.578-1.735 billion into the local economy, and drive significant business for Taipei’s hotels, restaurants, retailers, and tourism attractions.

Organized by Rotary International in conjunction with local Rotary members, the 2026 Rotary Convention Taipei is supported by multiple organizations in Taiwan, including Chunghwa Telecom, a Diamond-Level Official Sponsor. Both parties held an official signing ceremony on 10 June to mark their collaboration in supporting the convention.

As an Official Telecom Provider and Official Mobile App Sponsor, Chunghwa Telecom is delivering comprehensive telecommunications and digital connectivity services to support the convention. These services include high-speed broadband infrastructure, temporary landline services, eSIMs for Rotary International staff, mobile base station vehicles at the House of Friendship, and dedicated service counters to assist international attendees.

In addition, Chunghwa Telecom is supporting Rotary’s humanitarian mission through the broadcast of Rotary public service videos on its MOD platform, helping extend Rotary’s message of service, peace, and community impact to a broader audience across Taiwan.

Through its advanced ICT capabilities and commitment to ESG principles, Chunghwa Telecom is helping ensure a seamless convention experience while showcasing Taiwan’s leadership in digital innovation, resilient communications, and sustainable development.

More than 100 employees from Chunghwa Telecom’s Taipei Operations Branch participated in Rotary’s “End Polio Now” 3K and 12.5K Charity Run on June 13, joining Rotary members from around the world in experiencing the vibrancy and energy of Taipei while supporting Rotary’s global effort to eradicate polio.

Rotary members and international visitors from around the world will have an opportunity to enjoy Taipei’s culture, food, and attractions. “Rotary members across Taiwan are proud to welcome our global family back to Taipei for the first time since the event was held here in 1994,” said Rotary Host Organization Committee Chair Jackson Hsieh. “From welcome messages in 7,000 Taiwan Taxi cabs to thousands of volunteers at transportation hubs, hotels and other key locations around the city, we will ensure every guest feels at home in Taipei.”

With the world’s highest Rotary membership per capita among countries of more than 500,000 people, Taiwan stands out as a global leader in civic engagement. In 2024–2025, Taiwan ranked fourth globally in contributions to The Rotary Foundation – Rotary’s philanthropy arm.

Taiwan’s almost 40,000 Rotary members are engaged in a wide range of community service projects that bring science education programs to rural schools, support Indigenous communities through environment and vocational training, tackle e-waste through computer refurbishing and donation programs, provide meals and companionship to senior citizens, and much more.

Rotary members throughout the world develop and implement sustainable, community-driven projects that fight disease, promote peace, provide clean water, support education, help mothers and children, grow local economies and protect the environment. Over the last 100 years, US $5.5 billion has been awarded through The Rotary Foundation – Rotary’s charitable arm that helps clubs work together to perform meaningful, impactful service.
