Take in the local sights and sounds, and experience the tastes that have made the Crescent City famous. Zagat recently rated New Orleans' dining scene as the most affordable in the United States.
To enjoy fellowship and experience Rotary at an international level
The city holds a special place in RI President Ray Klinginsmith's heart. He departed from New Orleans on a Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarship to the University of Cape Town, South Africa, in 1961, beginning his Rotary journey.
View a video to hear Klinginsmith and his wife, Judie, explain how the spirit of Mardi Gras lasts all year long and to see a few of their favorite spots.
While you're in New Orleans, there's no better way to discover the city than to let local Rotarians show you around through host-ticketed events. Purchase tickets for the Sounds of the South Concert, and prepare to be immersed in a cornucopia of regional music. You'll enjoy the sounds of a traditional New Orleans brass band, learn the Cajun two-step, feel the spirit of a gospel choir, sing the blues with New Orleans' finest, and experience jazz in the city where it was born.
You'll also want to consider an Evening of Fun, Food, Fellowship, and Fins, a chance to stroll the Riverwalk Marketplace, visit the aquarium, and sample regional dishes prepared and served by Rotarians from New Orleans and the surrounding area.
Enhance your convention experience by rolling up your sleeves for a volunteer project. Check the Host Organization Committee website for information as opportunities develop.
Extend your stay in the city to take in the New Orleans Wine and Food Experience, 24-28 May.
Come early to the convention, and participate in preconvention events such as the Rotary Reunion, which replaces the International Institute for 2011, and the Rotaract Preconvention Meeting.
See the preliminary program (PDF) for more information, and learn about travel discounts, including a 10 percent discount on Amtrak's best travel rail fare 15-31 May.
