StrategiesWe have a new model Rotary Club of Kent Town in 9520 which has predominantly younger members. I too have found no lack of enthusiasm from these members for service projects, in fact their energy and achievements puts other clubs to shame at times. However the growth in membership has been disappointing because so many members move interstate each year because of promotional opportunities so they are running hard just to replace those they lose. Lets hope they are not lost to Rotary. Also Kent Town has found that the cost of membership and meals (the latter is about 4x the former in most clubs) prevents some people from joining. Kent Town has set up a Friends of Rotary Club of Kent Town which uses such people on projects but they are not full members. They have twice as many Friends as they have members.

StrategiesOne of our most effective tools that more and more clubs are using is to hold a special program on membership rather than rely on the random "Bring a Guest" methodology. First, the club develops a targeted list of prospective Rotarians and appoints a board member to sponsor the candidate. Then the Club President sends each a formal letter inviting each candidate to a Rotary Informational Program. The board member follows up. The program is held in lieu of a regular program and stresses information about RI and the Club with handouts and presentations on the Avenues of Service. The board member then follows up.
ResultsClosure rates of new members as a result of this unified effort are encouraging.

IssuesUndertaken a year long effort to re-establish ourselves as an active and functioning club in our small community after several years of barely surviving. While our community was withstanding a 3 year downtown highway reconstruction project, so much of our commerce and community spirit was hanging by a very thin thread. A few Rotarians were determined to survive and make our club active and vibrant once again, and use as the catalyst our 75th anniversary celebration.
StrategiesOur plan was to make it a community celebration, invite representation of all businesses, professions, and organizations, in our village to join us at our local historical house, the Mills Mansion, for a special event, announce our plans for several project and fundraisers for the next year, and invite participation of all those in the village and town who were also interested in Mt. Morris revitalization to work with us. We have since had several spaghetti dinners as fundraisers and planned fireworks displays, Easter egg hunts, dictionary projects at school, Bellamy days, and other activities. With each activity we have designed in a recruitment component where we share information about what we are doing.
ResultsOur spirit and reaching out have resulted in our growth from 3 to 11 members and we are just beginning.

IssuesMembers seem bored without participation
StrategiesAs club secretary of a new club in charge in club fellowship I suggest that we group the club members into groups of 4 or 5 rotarians each and assign to them to handle the regular weekly meetings for two months. The group in charge will see to it in inviting speakers; assign entertainers and rotarians who have assignment in the various parts of the night's fellowship at the end of the year the best group who have encouraged attendance and make memorable fellowships for the club will win a cash prize.
ResultsAs a result members become vibrant and look forward to the regular meetings. Watching and waiting what the other groups have in store for the club.

StrategiesThe RC of Jaro Centraline created a program termed Small Change. This program is in response to the call of R.I. President Jonathan Majiyagbe for Rotarians all over the world to Lend a Hand. Every meeting we contribute small amounts and the collection is given to a Rotarian on rotation basis. That Rotarian has to perform a small act of kindness to be reported during each subsequent meeting. Some examples include: handing surprised cash gift to security guards, giving food to some street children, helped some working students buy instructional materials, paid for college placement examination fees of poor students.

StrategiesThe RC of Pretoria Hatfield organized a get to know rotary evening where speeches about community, vocational and international projects were given. Two videos were shown to get potential members interested and get relatively new members and their family more acquainted with the work of the club and RI. Fellowship and enthusiasm also functioned as a way of getting people interested.
Results4 new members out of 9 newly introduced people, more involved members and better PR by everyone.
