More than 200 Rotary World Peace Fellows from 60 countries have benefited from the Rotary Centers for International Studies in peace and conflict resolution since 2002. In 2006, Rotary launched the Rotary Peace and Conflict Studies program .
The 2006 Nobel Peace Prize winner, Muhammad Yunus, pioneered the idea of microcredit loans, which inspired many Rotary club projects. He received the Rotary Award for World Understanding and Peace in 1999.

Although Rotary is not a voting member of the United Nations, it holds the highest consultative status offered by the UN to a nongovernmental organization.
About 30 armed conflicts around the world have displaced more than 30 million people, 50 percent of whom are children, according to the International Rescue Committee .
