As a Rotaract Advisor who was hanging in the wings, it was apparent that this really validated these young people. At 10:41AM on 28 June 2010, Donna Murphy wrote: The convention was a great experience in a beautiful city. We especially enjoyed the plenary sessions – fabulous speakers and great entertainment. My one disappointment was in my fellow Rotarians at the closing plenary session when, despite multiple announcements prohibiting it, they took flash photos during the Cirque du Soleil performance. The announcement clearly stated that flash photography could distract the performers, perhaps resulting in serious injury. But, still, there were flashes all over the arena during the entire performance. My question to them – did you think the warning was just for everyone else – not you? What happened to the 4-way test? How could someone who supposedly believes in Service Above Self deliberately put these performers in danger? If you don’t understand English, use the equipment provided. If you don’t know how to turn off the flash, ask a second-grader. And , when you see those photos you will see that the flash only goes 5-6 feet anyway so you risked a life for nothing. It was the only time since becoming a Rotarian that I wanted to take off my Rotary pin and slink out of the building. Shame on you!
