Past, present, and future district governors from zones 11-14 will join RI directors for a Rotary institute in Sorrento, Italy, 7-11 November.
Focusing on Rotary’s responsibility in contemporary society, the institute will aim to update Rotarians on the latest developments within Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation.
At the event, RI President Wilfrid J. Wilkinson will recognize 10 Rotary districts in Italy for their contributions to the Foundation’s PolioPlus program. Rotarians raised the funds with help from some star power on 4 October, when 63 theaters throughout Italy premiered the movie Michael Clayton, starring George Clooney, and donated half the proceeds from ticket sales to PolioPlus.
The institute will also feature a ceremony and dinner in honor of Major Donors to the Foundation, who will have the chance to dine with Wilkinson, Past RI President Carl-Wilhelm Stenhammar, and other senior leaders.
As a follow-up to their movie fundraiser, Italian districts have a polio awareness plan in the works. To inform the general public about Rotary’s polio eradication efforts, leaflets will be handed out on Alitalia domestic flights from Rome and Milan during the last week of October.
