R I News spoke with several district governors-elect after the opening plenary session of the 2011 International Assembly, when RI President-elect Kalyan Banerjee announced the 2011-12 theme, Reach Within to Embrace Humanity . Here’s what they had to say.

Fred ne Tiabu Tatukila
District 9150 (Democratic Republic of the Congo)
"The theme is very good. It all begins with the heart. It is the heart that communicates to the head and tells us to start doing things and taking action."

Rajendran Sangilimuthu
District 3000 (India)
"It is an excellent theme and, being from India myself, this was a wonderful experience. We are eagerly waiting to start reaching within."

Marco Antonio Colenci
District 4310 (Brazil)
"It’s the best possible theme we could have asked for. We believe in what he said, especially about the importance of family, during his speech. We agree with his values."

Paula J. Matthews
District 7770 (South Carolina, USA)
"We’ve been talking about the family of Rotary and building on our fellowship. Continuity of our work is a huge thing we’ve also been working on. We’re also branding Rotary using Facebook and Twitter. This theme gives me more impetus to work with clubs and get these done."

Mahomed Baboo
District 9220 (Mauritius)
"It is a very deep theme. We’ll announce it this year at our presidents-elect training seminar, where we’ll be talking about our goals: consolidating clubs, ensuring that we’re up to date with the RI Strategic Plan, and promoting fellowship and friendship in our district."

The mind may be conniving but if we do things by listening to our heart and inner self, we'll find true love and fellowship. So let us reach within and be instrumental in changing ourselves and embrace our family and the whole humanity so tha there is Universal peace and a World without conflict.
At 9:15AM on 6 June 2011, PDG Arun Kudale wrote: Kalyan Banerjee is the third RI President from India. He has given the theme which is in line with the Indian Philosophy, like his two predecessors from India. It touches the heart and inspires you to do the humanitarian work. One cannot do the best in life and serve the mankind through his chosen fiel of operation, unless it appeals to his own heart. You need to look into yourself, before you serve the needy people in your community. Hats off to Kalyan!

At 2:20PM on 21 January 2011, Rasheed K. Siddiqi wrote: "REACH WITHIN TO EMBRACE HUMANITY" .. such an inspiring theme should touch the heart of every Rotarian. Indeed, the RI theme for 2011 - 12 is so apt for all the denizens of today's world. Despite the blessings of the technological advances and economic boon in some parts of the world, especially South Asia where PE Kalyan Banarjee belongs, humanity in many parts of the world is trampled under the feet of tyranical rule, inequitable distribution of resources, human right violations, intolerance, gender, cast, creed biases, and fanatacism. Unless we reach within and listen to the esoteric voice of our conscious we will not be able to make this world a better place to live for the posterity. Kalyan Banarjee belongs to the part of the world where temples, mosques, churches, gurdwaras, and all kind of places of worship are spread all over the country. The shrines of sufi saints in India embrace the humanity without regard to caste , creed or color.
