Anthony F. de St. Dalmas, aide to RI President John Kenny and past RI director, died on 7 June.
A Rotarian since 1972, De St. Dalmas was a member of the Rotary Club of Southgate, Greater London, England. In addition to serving as president’s aide, he was RI director in 2005-07 and president of Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland in 2002-03.
"Tony and I were friends for more than 20 years," Kenny says. "As my aide, he was assiduous in his duties and meticulous in attending to the many facets of the position. I valued Tony as a confidant."
De St. Dalmas was a solicitor and consultant for his former law firm. He served RI in several capacities, including chair of the RI Board Executive Committee, PolioPlus national advocacy adviser, task force general and area coordinator, committee member and chair, International Assembly group discussion leader, and district governor. He also served as a Council on Legislation representative and chair of the RI Board Audit Committee.
He received his law degree at the University of Wales, where he played cricket and hockey. After national service in the army in Whitehall, England, he joined Barclays Bank as a graduate trainee. He left the bank to become a solicitor.
De St. Dalmas was a Freeman of the City of London and Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Bakers. He was also a member of the board of a local private school.
He was a Rotary Foundation Bequest Society member and a recipient of the Citation for Meritorious Service and International Service Award for a Polio-Free World.
"Tony and his wife, Peggy, were a devoted couple," Kenny says. "Our thoughts are with Peggy at this time. The suddenness of Tony's passing makes it all the more poignant. My wife, June, and I shall both miss him dearly."
A thanksgiving service for his life will be held 2 July at 2 p.m. at St. Paul's Church, Church Hill, Winchmore Hill, London N21 England. Peggy de St. Dalmas requests that no mourning clothes be worn. A smaller family funeral will be held earlier.
Condolences may be sent to the family at Aber, 61 Merridene, Grange Park, London N21 1RD England. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Rotary Foundation in memory of De St. Dalmas.
