Past RI Director Asbjørn Austvik dies

Past RI Director Asbjørn Austvik.
Asbjørn Austvik, who served on the Rotary International Board of Directors from 1990-92, died 2 January.
Austvik, of Trondheim, Norway, joined the Rotary Club of Trondeim in 1955. In addition to serving on the RI Board, he was governor of District 2300 in 1977-78 and aide to the RI president in 1998-99. He held other RI positions, including International Assembly discussion leader, committee member and chair, and vice chair of the European Regional PolioPlus Committee, and served as Rotary Foundation trustee from 1992-95.
Austvik retired as director of the Thomas Angell Foundation, in Trondheim. Chair of a housing development company, he was a member of the Fulbright Alumni Association of Norway and was active with the Royal Norwegian Council for Scientific and Industrial Research. He was also a former assistant professor at Dartmouth College, in New Hampshire, USA.
Funeral services will be held on 9 January at the Cathedral of Trondheim. Austvik is survived by his wife, Eva, daughter, Hilde, and son, Dag with wife Susan. Condolences may be sent to Eva Austvik at Bispegaten 4, NO-7013 Trondheim, Norway.
