More than 1,700 Public Relations Grants of up to US$3,000 were awarded in 2006-07 to help clubs and districts promote Rotary and their projects to the media and the general public. Many of these projects used RI resources, such as Humanity in Motion public service announcements, and localized them as appropriate. In addition to funds from RI, some projects obtained donated or discounted advertising space.

Here’s a sampling of successful projects:

  •  The Rotary Club of Kyoto-Fushimi, Kyoto, Japan, placed an electronic billboard in a busy commercial center. Featuring a picture of a child receiving drops of polio vaccine, the billboard flashed Rotary’s emblem and message about polio eradication.
  •  Using Rotary PSAs, the Rotary Club of Karagwe, Tanzania, promoted Rotary’s work for polio eradication and peace for a total of 720 minutes of TV coverage and 900 minutes on the radio.
  •  In Australia, four Queensland clubs — Gatton and Lockyer, Oakey, Pittsworth, and Toowoomba — placed Humanity in Motion PSAs on television and radio and in newspapers. Three TV stations broadcast the PSAs a total of 220 times, giving the clubs one free spot for each one purchased. The local newspaper provided four free advertisements for each paid one.
  •  The Rotary Club of Campinas-Alvorada, São Paulo, Brazil, participated in a clean-water awareness campaign, placing RI’s water billboard image in 10 locations. At three locations, Rotarians in promotional T-shirts handed out Rotary brochures and glasses of water.

Our first project was to provide news papers to evey 4th grade student in the Shamokin/Coal Township Elementary Schools & then teach the children how to "surf" the newspaper. Cost: $52. Overall, we have collected $250 in pennies thus far. We're looking forward to the next school year to provide more projects for the children Just like collecting pennies makes projects like this possible, each child has value to contribute and accomplish goals through "team work".

If you talk to your various commercial media outlets you may find they will give you excellent rates. As we are an organiastion made up mainly of business people you could try dividing the cost between members businesses and then run a series of commercials tagging a business at the end... e.g. Joe Bloggs Motors, Anytown, prodly supporting Rotary.

I am no club neither rotary , maybe someday, but still devising ways of creating affordable(almost free housing) to a certain group of persons I've already started training and developing other people's talents. Only that the number is growing bigger, hence my switch plan housing project. Will inform you about this in the future. It's a huge project which, if it happens to surpass my capabalities, I will integrate in nearby community organisations or clubs. Once again all Rotarians and clubs for the good cause, thank you. PR Grants would certainly be useful for the club to enhance Rotary images.

In our little way, we do our share in terms of paying for a block page at a local newspaper to share the message of Rotary.
