Daniel Thibeault, Rotary Club of Cap-de-la-Madeleine
Some people around us are role models. They display courage, determination, and goodwill, and carry out projects with successful results.
Daniel Thibeault, a Rotarian since 1994, has this adventurous spirit. He is the charter president of the Rotary Club of Salamanca de Monterrico, the only 100 percent Paul Harris Fellow Rotary club in Peru. From 1995 to 2005, when he returned to Canada after spending 45 years in that country, in his capacity as club world community service chair, his club carried out 44 projects in the areas of health, education, agriculture, clean water with the support of The Rotary Foundation and several clubs in North America and Europe. Thibeault also contributed to the strengthening of other Rotary clubs in Peru by helping them implement projects.
Since 2007, he has been busy working on international projects for the Rotary Club of Cap-de-la-Madeleine in District 7790. Every year, through Collaboration Santé Internationale de Québec, the club sends large quantities of medicine, medical and school equipment, and clothing to Peru. Last year, they shipped 500 school uniforms to benefit students of all ages. The club is also involved in the funding of a literacy and cataract surgery program under the supervision of the Rotary Clubs of Salamanca de Monterrico and Siglo XXI de Lima.
Thibeault has always shown integrity, leadership, and dedication. His experience and international connections are very helpful to younger generations. He inspires people around him to action and creates awareness. After being involved in so many projects, Thibeault, now 82, is still full of energy and continues to work for the wellbeing of his community. A city councilman in St-Luc-de-Vincennes, his home village, he is involved with 11 regional organizations and promotes the important issues of today.
Rotary values are exemplified by this man who has an incredible faith and humility. His dedication to humanitarian aid has no limit. He works with many Rotarians in order to constantly develop new projects. His hard work and his involvement in particular single him out. Moreover, his incredible charisma wins over everyone who has the chance to cross his path. Putting other people’s needs before his own is Thibeault’s philosophy. -- By Aurore Ménard and Past District Governor Marcel Girardeau,
