Past RI Director Gant dies

William G.B. Gant, who served as 1999-2001 RI director, died on 31 January.
A Rotarian since 1968, Gant was a member of the Rotary Club of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. In addition to serving as RI director, he was a district governor in 1993-94, Council on Legislation representative, and committee member and chair.
During his career at H.C. Price of Canada Ltd., one of Canada's foremost pipeline constructors, he rose from field construction timekeeper to president of the company.
As a leader in the industry, Gant wrote several papers on various aspects of pipeline construction in Arctic environments, earning him an international reputation as an authority on the subject. In recognition of his accomplishments, Gant was appointed an honorary life member of the Pipe Line Contractors Association of Canada and of the Calgary Chamber of Commerce.
Gant was also an honorary life director of the Calgary Stampede and director of the local United Way.
He is survived by his wife, Louise, and three daughters. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, 6 February, at St. Andrews United Church, 924 Heritage Drive SW, in Calgary.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that contributions be made to The Rotary Foundation (Canada) or the Rotary Clubs of Calgary Foundation.
