Foundation sets up fund to help flood victims in West Africa
Rotary International News -- 27 October 2010
Heavy rains and subsequent flooding in West Africa have killed nearly 400 people and affected more than 1.5 million, prompting The Rotary Foundation to set up a temporary fund to aid in long-term recovery.
The Rotary Western Africa Flooding Recovery Fund will be administered through Foundation Matching Grants and global grants. Rotarians, clubs, and districts can contribute both cash and District Designated Fund (DDF) allocations to this fund.
In their application, Matching Grant project partners can pledge DDF and cash contributions and request that they be matched by the Western Africa fund. Applications received by the Foundation for recovery projects in affected countries will be reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis and will be approved by administrators of the fund for completeness. All the current Matching Grant and Global Grant guidelines and criteria will apply to these projects, including restrictions regarding construction and renovation.
Updates will be posted at www.rotary.org as they become available. Please send any questions or concerns regarding this disaster to relief@rotary.org.
