DescriptionOperation Cleft provides free surgical intervention and speech therapy services for underprivileged children born with a cleft lip and/or cleft palate in Bangladesh. A team of eight highly qualified Bangladeshi Plastic Surgeons operate at more than thirty locations across Bangladesh, from Syhlet in the northwest to Chittagong in the south. Since Operation Cleft began in 2005, over 6,500 operations have been performed; the initiative projects to provide cleft repair surgery for 1,000-1,200 patients annually. The Rotary Club of Box Hill Central is seeking funds to continue supporting the work of Operation Cleft by using moneys to pay surgeons and develop speech therapy outreach programs. Speech and language therapists are also needed to volunteer about one month; proficiency in Bangla is preferred.
