Disaster relief and recovery efforts
Disasters in your district
If a disaster occurs in your district, contact your club president, district governor, or both to find out whether immediate relief efforts (including community cleanup, medical treatment, or food donations) are already being organized by your club or district. Consider collaborating with other clubs to provide immediate assistance. Contact community leaders to learn how your Rotary club or district can join in or lead relief efforts. Check with local or regional offices of international agencies to find out about their existing aid and to avoid duplicating their work.
Additionally, Rotarians are encouraged to contact RI Programs with inquiries regarding short-term projects.
Immediate relief efforts
To provide immediate relief in the event of a disaster, Rotarians are encouraged to work with long-standing international relief agencies that can allocate money quickly and effectively, such as the Red Crescent, Red Cross, UNICEF, or the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
Assistance through Rotary International
After a disaster, clubs and districts may appeal to the Rotary world for help by contacting RI Programs. Details about the disaster, news of club and district assistance efforts, and disaster relief bank account and Rotarian coordinator contact information should be sent to RI using the Disaster Relief and Recovery Effort Submission Form. Once RI receives the form, club and district relief efforts will be publicized on the disaster relief pages.
Long-term help is also available through The Rotary Foundation’s Humanitarian Grants Program.
