  1. Emergency action

    The Global Polio Eradication Initiative, of which Rotary is a spearheading partner, has launched an emergency action plan because of the threat of continued transmission of polio due to funding and immunization gaps. Cases have dropped dramatically, but the plan is needed to avoid a resurgence of the disease.

  1. On to Lisbon

    Registration has begun for the 2013 RI Convention in Lisbon, Portugal, 23-26 June. Get resources from the recently completed convention in Bangkok and register now to be part of the fun in Lisbon.

  1. Maternal health

    Haiti has the highest infant and maternal mortality rates in the Western Hemisphere. Rotarians around the world are working to reduce these rates and improve access to essential medical services for all mothers and their children.

  1. Polio milestones celebrated

    A laser light show dazzled Rotarians during the third plenary session on 8 May as they celebrated milestones in Rotary's efforts to eradicate polio, including India's removal from the polio endemic list and surpassing Rotary's fundraising challenge.

    Nobel Peace Prize laureate Muhammad Yunus, founder of Grameen Bank, encouraged Rotarians to help the poor through microcredit loans. Grameen Bank helps thousands in Bangladesh and beyond.
