Communication

Good communication helps to foster effective clubs, achieve goals, coordinate club visits, encourage membership growth, increase support for The Rotary Foundation, and promote the district's work to Rotarians and the community.

Governors-nominee should become familiar with the district's current communication plan and think about how to best communicate with district and club leaders by:

  • Navigating the district's website and analyzing how to use it to communicate to Rotarians and the public
  • Reviewing past monthly letters and considering topics to address
  • Reviewing club websites to become familiar with topics clubs are discussing
  • Understanding how the district and its clubs work with local media to promote their service efforts to the community

Creating a calendar

The calendars of governors-elect and governors fill up quickly. Governors-nominee have a year to plan and think about which meetings to observe and which clubs to visit in order to become more familiar with the district.

Some strategies include:

  • Observing a variety of district meetings
  • Observing a governor’s official visit
  • Attending a district governor-nominee training, if available
  • Registering for the RI Convention
  • Organizing a district leadership training
