Issuesailing and ageing membership, estimated that club would cease in 10 years if it did not recruit members. Club decided to set aside 1000 to go towards recruitment, to pay for joint meetings with local organizations and to subsidize the under 35 years of age new member by 50%
StrategiesClub accepted the strategy to gain new members, by actively asking people to join. Held joint meetings, discounted the membership fees for under 35's. Advertised for members in press releases. Made the Club less formal, more friendly and more fun. Abandoned dress code. We moved the meetings to the evening. We have a different evening every 5 week month. We give the opportunity for members to address the Club for 2minutes on a subject of their choice.
ResultsWe have grown from 16 members to 22 members. All are under 40 years of age, one is in her fifties. Our new President will 35 years of age. It is a vibrant Club with new enthusiasm and energy. Last year, the Club won the Millennium Cup for the most improved club in the District.

StrategiesThe RC of Sandton developed a club-focused survey that asked questions to measure the effectiveness of a Rotary Club. The point being that once a Rotary club knows how effective its members and community believe it to be, then it can make the adjustmentsto become an effective club

IssuesLack of information about members.
StrategiesThe idea was to get personal & professional information from members by asking certain questions. The information on a member was put in the club newsletter and members were to guess the name of the member.
ResultsThe results are a better understanding of the lives of the membership creating better fellowship. Making it more of a family atmosphere.

Issues
StrategiesThe RC of Jaro Centraline created a program termed Small Change. This program is in response to the call of R.I. President Jonathan Majiyagbe for Rotarians all over the world to Lend a Hand. Every meeting we contribute small amounts and the collection is given to a Rotarian on rotation basis. That Rotarian has to perform a small act of kindness to be reported during each subsequent meeting. Some examples include: handing surprised cash gift to security guards, giving food to some street children, helped some working students buy instructional materials, paid for college placement examination fees of poor students.

IssuesVery little interaction with existing members and new members. Every meeting members were sitting at the same table with the same group of friends.
StrategiesIn order to integrate new members and mix up the existing member contacts we decided to implement Lottery Seating. Upon entering the meeting room we had a bucket of 4 Rotary icons (8) of each. Each table had the Icon prominently displayed in the center of each table. Each member grab an icon from the bucket and had to find the table that had that icon.
ResultsOur first try we had a lot of push back. Long time members were refusing to participate. But with lots of encouragement all finally took an icon. The second Lottery Seating went extremely well. Everyone got involved and it created lots and lots of excitement in the room. We will continue with Lottery Seating 1 meeting a month throughout this Rotary year.

Issues
StrategiesAll can agree that calling absentees, educating new members, mentoring new members, good orientation for prospective members and a nice induction are all good goals. Who will be responsible for doing these activities. We have a Membership Retention/Attendance Chair who will always be a different person than the Membership Recruitment chair.
ResultsNew members are called much more frequently, no member is inducted without an orientation of at least 60 minutes and the recruitment chair is not distracted from recruitment because of these important duties.

StrategiesInterest in forming the Rotary Club of Fort Dodge-Daybreak, Iowa, USA, was aroused by recruiting members from the news media who then wrote about the new club in the local papers. The Rotary Club of New Tampa, Florida, USA used a similar method and ended up with 63 charter members.

IssuesDistrict-wide recruitment of new members.
StrategiesExtensive focus on marketing Rotary through PETS trainings, District Assemblies and District Conference. District wide membership trainings open to all Rotarians are held regularly. Training sites are moved around the district to facilitate more attendance. The district also initiated a mass distribution of newspaper inserts in several counties in the district which describe in detail the public service works and history of local clubs. There was also a launch of a new web system which allows the public to find Rotarians and Rotary clubs as well as improving communication between clubs.
ResultsA noticeable increase in new member recruitment, as well as increased awareness and interest in Rotary.
