The first Interact club was chartered 5 November 1962 in Melbourne, Florida, USA, with 23 members.

During World Interact Week, 2-8 November, Interactors and Rotarians commemorate the first Interact club charter. They can complete four designated projects to receive special recognition from RI: giving a presentation or writing an inspiring letter about Interact, inviting Rotarians to an Interact club meeting, inviting Interactors to a weekly Rotary club meeting, and conducting a joint Rotary/Interact project to increase awareness of Interact in the community.

An estimated 281,152 youth ages 14-18 belong to 12,224 Interact clubs. Interact clubs are spread over 476 districts and 133 countries and geographical areas.

India, the United States, Brazil, the Philippines, Japan, and Korea boast the highest number of Interact clubs.

In 2008, 171 Interact clubs and their sponsor Rotary clubs in 29 countries and geographic areas celebrated World Interact Week and received recognition from Rotary International.

In 2001, the popular video Serious Fun was released as a tool for Rotarians to promote Interact among potential members as well as Rotarians.
