Q: I’m interested in learning how we might invite new Rotarians to join in the campaign to eradicate polio. My guess is that there are many new club members who would like to become a part of the solution too.
Every Rotarian should have some sense of ownership in the polio eradication campaign, and this means making a financial contribution to PolioPlus Partners.
The first step is to ensure that all our new Rotarians know what we’ve achieved in our polio eradication efforts, and then to let them know that we still need to finish the job.
Often, people don’t realize that polio is still endemic in four countries: Afghanistan, India, Nigeria, and Pakistan. If we don’t eradicate this disease, which up until 1988 paralyzed more than 1,000 children a day, it will spread, and every country in the world will again be at risk.
Let Rotarians know about the opportunity to become part of the solution by contributing to PolioPlus Partners. For this program, the Trustees of The Rotary Foundation match cash and District Designated Fund contributions with 50 cents for every US$1 donated.
