We are facing a crisis in membership in North America. We need to do what we can to attract new Rotarians. Jeff is only repeating an observation that Greg Mortenston made at the beginning of his address. When women do not see themselves represented in senior leadership positions after 20 years - how welcome do they feel? At an orientation of scholars and GSE, I had to explain to the (mainly women) why this is so - not an easy task. Just because is not an accpetable answer.

The convention was superb. I have no concern about the make-up of the Foundation Board as it includes people across nationalities and life experiences. It is a good thing that Rotary does not have a quota for any nationality or gender. The fact that there are no women on the Board and only one woman on the Foundation Board requires no apology. There has been no "exclusion" of women or unfairness as Jeff Hunston has implied. The 4 Way test is intact. Over time I expect we will see many more women on such Rotary Boards in the future as they gain the experience and qualifications of those who have gone before.

It is difficlult to reconcile RI's words of inclusion, equity, fairness and the 4 Way Test with the fact that there are no women on the Board and with only one woman on the Foundation Board - 1 out of 36. What is Rotary going to tell young women who are prospective Rotarians about this inequity and lack of fairness? Other than this, the convention was superb.
