At 9:20AM on 21 January 2010, Irfan Mohammad Khan - Asstt. Governor (2010 - 11) - RI Distt. 3100 wrote: Some years back the time magazine carried an article on the then Prime Minister Mohammad Mahathir of Malaysia. Amongst several posers, one question posed to him was as to how he is maintaining the communal harmony and peace in the multi ethnic, multi language, multi racial Malaysian society. The society which is made up of predominantly Muslim Malay, Chinese, Buddhists, Indian Tamils, settlers from the western world and so many others. Prime Minister Mohammad Mahathir replied, yes in the initial couple of years of his Prime Minister ship, he tried to segregate the Malaysian society in water tight compartments, each community to be happy being unto themselves. But soon he realised that this was not in the interest of the country and society at large in the long run. So, he changed the strategy and instead of dividing the communities, he built bridges between them. And soon Malaysia became the country to boast of. All communities, the Muslims, the Chinese, the Hindus, the Buddhists, and the Christians started working hand in hand towards a better and prosperous tomorrow and carved out a niche for themselves on the globe. The above is the practical example Building Communities Bridging Continents, if it can do wonders in one country, We 1.2 million Rotarians world all over can do globally. Kudos to President Elect Ray for such a pragmatic theme.
