Past RI Director Roy Troutt

Roy Troutt, 87, who served on the Rotary International Board of Directors for 1979-81, died 26 December.

Troutt, of Chickasha, Oklahoma, USA, was a member of the Rotary Club of Norman and, before that, of the Rotary Club of Chickasha. He first joined Rotary in 1950.

In addition to serving on the RI Board, Troutt served RI as governor of District 5770 in 1972-73 and as a member of the Rotary Fellowships Committee from 1999 to 2003 and the Foundation Alumni Resource Group from 1994 to 2000. He also served District 5770 as chair of the RI Convention promotion committee for 1998-99 and 2001-02.

Troutt was a recipient of The Rotary Foundation’s Citation for Meritorious Service and Distinguished Service Award. He also received a meritorious service award from the Chickasha Rotary club for 20 years of service.

An educator, Troutt served as president of the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma until his retirement in 2000, and was the longest tenured president in the school's history, according to the school's office of media and community relations. He was also a past president of the Oklahoma Association for Higher Education and the Oklahoma Association of Secondary School Principals.

Troutt also served in many civic organizations, including as past president of the Ardmore, Oklahoma, United Fund and the Ardmore YMCA. He was a member of the board of directors of the Chickasha Chamber of Commerce and the Salvation Army.

Funeral services were held 30 December in the chapel at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma. Troutt is survived by his sister Martha Horn, two nephews, and two godchildren. Condolences may be sent to his goddaughter Valerie Jones at 3501 Hedges Road, Ardmore, OK 73401, USA.
