Rotarian Stu Palmer has an EREY story. What's yours?
Rotary International News -- 19 April 2010
“Through the Humanitarian Grants Program, my wife and I have gained close friends and the satisfaction of knowing our donations have been well spent.”
-- Stuart “Stu” Palmer, past governor of District 5440 (parts of Northern Colorado and Nebraska; Wyoming, USA)
During a Group Study Exchange to Brazil in 1998, team leader Stu Palmer launched his first Rotary Foundation Matching Grant project, a collaboration between his district and District 4470 (parts of Brazil and Paraguay). More than 10 years later, the two districts have participated in more than 25 Matching Grant efforts that are helping people on both sides of the equator.
Their partnership has provided physical therapy equipment for children with disabilities and respirators for premature infants. It has resulted in vocational training for at-risk teens and a cooperative vegetable garden that’s providing food and a small income for poor families.
“We truly have a special program that develops friendships while changing lives. It’s why The Rotary Foundation is our charity of choice,” Palmer says.
