July 2011

My wife, Binota, and I had the great pleasure in early July to return to India to participate in the installation of clubs throughout the country.

It was 12 cities in 12 days -- quite a trip! I was honored and humbled to return there as RI president and participate in the wonderful festivities that mark the beginning of the year. I look forward with enormous anticipation to hearing from you throughout the year. There is much we are trying to accomplish, but I feel with your support that we will be up to the task!

In May, I also felt the kindness of Rotarians as I stood at the plenary podium at the RI Convention in New Orleans. I was awed by the support of the more than 18,000 Rotarians in the audience as well as the love and support from my family who came with me to the convention.

President, the 3rd Indian to hold this coveted office. On thig which common Rotarians like me always ponder is that why all the 3 great Indians, who had held this august office of R.I., did not choose to hold their conventions inside India. The first two had held their conventions in USA: St. Louis, MO, USA-June 9-13, 1962; and Orlando, FL, USA-June 14-17, 1991. Now you plan to hold your convention in Asia but again outside India at Bangkok, Thailand between 6-9 May, 2012. We wished that you may re-consider your decision and try to hold this once-in-a lifetime event Inside India at any of the Hotel-rich cities like New Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur or Agra, so that majority of Indian Rotarians like us, who can not afford to make a foreign trip for the same may witness your grand convention. For only God knows whether when a foruth Indian will get elected for this office, and still further, whether or not he will choose to hold his convention inside India. With Rotary Greetings and warm regards, DEEPAK MAHESHWARI PP- RC of Kanpur Metro Dist. Secretary- RID 3110 (2011-12)

I plan to meet you at the 2011 New Jersey (USA) Vocational Assembly on Monday, October 3. Our own club is holding a very special commemorative event just a few days before. We would be so thrilled and honored if you would be able to join us!
