The Board of Directors is the administrative body of Rotary International. Its 19 members include the RI president, president-elect, and 17 directors who are nominated by the clubs and elected at the RI Convention. The Board controls and manages RI affairs and funds in conformity with the RI Constitution and Bylaws. For continuity, each director serves a term of two years.


President

Wilfrid J. Wilkinson
Canada

Wilf is a founding partner of Wilkinson and Company, a tax and accounting firm. He retired in 2001 and has since served as executive director of the Quinte Ballet School of Canada and as Canadian coordinator for the National Association of Forensic Accountants. A Rotarian since 1962, Wilf is a PolioPlus national advocacy adviser and a member at large of the PolioPlus Partners Task Force. He has been a district governor, International Assembly discussion leader, regional session leader, consultative group member, committee member and chair, task force member, Foundation trustee and consultant, director, and vice president. He was chair of the 2005 Chicago Convention Committee and vice chair of RI’s Afghan refugee relief project. [Spouse: Joan]

Dong Kurn Lee
Korea

Dong Kurn Lee is chairman of Bubang Co. Ltd. and Bubang Techron Co. Ltd., manufacturing companies in Seoul. D.K. currently serves as a trustee to both the Busan College of Information Technology and Semyung University and is a past president of his high school and college alumni associations. A member of the Rotary Club of Seoul Hangang since 1971, D.K. has served RI as director, treasurer, district governor, RI training leader, and zone and regional coordinator for membership development. He also has served as a Rotary Foundation trustee and regional Rotary Foundation coordinator. He is chair of the Polio Eradication Private Sector Initiative in Korea. D.K. is a recipient of The Rotary Foundation Citation for Meritorious Service. As district governor, he was recognized at the 1996 RI Convention as the winner of the Calgary Challenge for the most successful membership development efforts. [Spouse: Young Ja]

Michael K. McGovern
2006-08, USA

The town manager of Cape Elizabeth since 1985, Mike is a past president of the Maine Municipal Association and the Maine Town and City Management Association. He also is a past chair of the Cumberland County Human Services Board. Mike has been a Rotarian since 1986 and has served as a district governor, training leader, task force member, committee chair, and Council on Legislation representative.

Ian H.S. Riseley
2006-08, Australia

Ian is a practicing chartered accountant and principal of Ian Riseley and Co., which advises local and international businesses. He has a postgraduate education in accounting, taxation, and law and has lectured in accounting and ethics. Ian has a strong interest in international affairs, and he received a Peacebuilder Award in 2002, which recognized his work in the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste. He has been a Rotarian since 1978 and has served RI as a district governor and a committee and task force member. [Spouse: Juliet]

Kjell-Åke Åkesson
2006-08, Sweden

Kjell-Åke retired in 1997 as president and managing director of Skånesemin, a bovine research center. He has been a Rotarian since 1969 and has served as a district governor, committee member, task force area and zone coordinator, training leader, and president’s representative. He has also been a Group Study Exchange team leader, Council on Legislation representative, and Rotary Volunteer. He was vice chair of the Host Organization Committee for the 2006 RI Convention in Malmö-Copenhagen. Kjell-Åke has received The Rotary Foundation’s Citation for Meritorious Service and its Distinguished Service Award. [Spouse: Ingrid]

Monty J. Audenart
2007-09, Canada

Monty Audenart received his doctorate of dental surgery in 1977 from the University of Alberta. He has served as president of two dental societies and as a member of the Peer Review Committee for the Alberta Dental Association. A member of the Rotary Club of Red Deer East since 1987, Monty has served as district governor, task force and committee member, president’s representative, and Council on Legislation representative. He has also served as district trainer, RI training leader, and governors-elect training seminar cochair in Zone 22. Monty is the founder of the Rotarian Action Group of Dental Volunteers. Örsçelik Balkan
2006-08, Turkey

Örsçelik is an international management and business development consultant who joined Rotary in 1973. He has been a district governor, training leader, task force zone coordinator, and president’s representative. He also has served as a Council on Legislation representative and a moderator and speaker at zone institutes and convention workshops. Örsçelik led disaster relief services in Turkey after the 1999 earthquake there and has helped bring Rotary services to Bosnia-Herzegovina. A member at large of the PolioPlus Partners Task Force, Örsçelik has been recognized with the 2001-02 Distinguished Past District Governor Presidential Citation, the RI Service Above Self Award, and The Rotary Foundation’s Citation for Meritorious Service. Thomas A. Branum, Sr.
2007-09, USA

Tom Branum Sr. is a Chartered Financial Consultant and a Chartered Life Underwriter in Noblesville, Indiana. He has been president of several professional and civic organizations. A member of the Rotary Club of Indianapolis Northeast since 1984, Tom has served RI as district governor, task force and committee member, and chair of the Host Organization Promotion Committee for the 1998 RI Convention in Indianapolis and the 2005 RI Convention in Chicago. He is a recipient of the RI Service Above Self Award as well as The Rotary Foundation Citation for Meritorious Service and Distinguished Service Award. Michael J. Johns
2007-09, USA

Michael Johns is president and CEO of the Johns-Carabelli Company, a cemetery monument business. He has served as president of several associations, including the Monument Builders of North America. A member of the Rotary Club of Hillcrest (Cleveland) since 1976, Mike served as club president in 1980-81 and 2001-02. He has served RI as governor of District 6630, member of the 2004 Osaka Convention Promotion Committee, and member of the World Community Service Programs Task Force. As district governor in 1986-87, he introduced PolioPlus, Gift of Life, and RYLA to the district. He has also served as a Permanent Fund national adviser. Mike is a Multiple Paul Harris Fellow, a Benefactor of The Rotary Foundation, and a charter member of the Bequest Society, as well as a recipient of The Rotary Foundation Citation for Meritorious Service. 2007-09, India

Ashok Mahajan, of Mumbai, is senior partner in Raj Industries, a firm he founded in 1973. He is a member of the Punjab Kesari Club, Council for Fair Business Practice, and International Institute of Management, and has served on the Civil Defense Advisory Committee Maharashtra. Since joining the Rotary Club of Mulund in 1973, Ashok has served Rotary as district governor and task force and committee member, and at district conferences and the 2001-02 India Presidential PolioPlus Summit. He has received the RI Service Above Self Award, as well as The Rotary Foundation Citation for Meritorious Service, Distinguished Service Award, and Regional Service Award for a Polio-Free World. R. Gordon R. McInally
2007-09, Scotland

Gordon McInally has worked in a general dentist practice since 1983. Gordon has held local dental surgery assistant teaching and examination posts and is a past chair of the East of Scotland Branch of the British Paedodontic Society. Gordon joined the Rotary Club of South Queensferry in 1984. He served as club president, district governor, vice president, and president for Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland, and has chaired numerous RIBI committees. He has served Rotary International as a president’s representative, committee member, Rotary zone institute moderator, and task force zone coordinator. Don is the longtime president of Business Insurance Technologies and the Arlington Insurance Agency Inc. He is a member of the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America and its Texas branch. A Rotarian since 1974, Don has served RI as a district governor, task force zone and area coordinator, training leader, committee chair, regional Rotary Foundation coordinator, and Council on Legislation representative. Paul is chairman/CEO of Netzel Associates Inc., a leading management-consulting firm specializing in work with not-for-profit organizations and institutions throughout the western United States. The founding chair and now special adviser to the Host Organization Committee for the 2008 RI Convention in Los Angeles, Paul has been an RI training leader at the 2003 and 2004 International Assemblies, District 5280 representative at the 2001 and 2004 Councils on Legislation, and co-convener of the 2004 Rotary Zones 23 and 24 Institute. He has served as a zone coordinator on four RI zone task forces and a Rotary Foundation Permanent Fund national adviser in 2000-02. Kazuhiko Ozawa
2007-09, Japan

Kazuhiko Ozawa is the owner and president of the Kamakura Park Hotel. He also manages several restaurants. He has been chairman of the city’s chamber of commerce and industry and its Special Occupation Remuneration Council. Kazuhiko is president of Yokosuka Transport, Port and Harbor Association; chair of the Advisory Board for Special Past Remuneration of Yokosuka City; and honorary president of the Yokosuka Defense Association. A member of the Rotary Club of Yokosuka since 1978, Kazuhiko has served Rotary International as a district governor, RI training leader, zone coordinator, RI president’s representative, and member of the Permanent Fund Committee for Japan. Raffaele Pallotta d'Acquapendente
2006-08, Italy

Raffaele, a medical admiral of the Italian navy, represents Italy on NATO’s Committee for Medical Emergencies. A professor of clinical and hyperbaric medicine, he is president of the International Academy of the Sea Sciences and the International Society of Hyperbaric Medicine. Raffaele has earned international recognition for his work, including a Legion of Honor award from France. He is a knight of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta and the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of St. George. Raffaele has been a Rotarian since 1968 and is a past district governor and a Paul Harris Fellow. Themistocles Pinho is an attorney in a partnership with his wife, Gilda, specializing in commercial development. He has served as secretary of the Brazil chapter of the Inter-American Bar Association and as a member of the World Association of Lawyers. Pinho has been a member of the Rotary Club of Niterói-Norte since 1971 and has served Rotary International as district governor, International Assembly group discussion leader, task force and committee member, and Council on Legislation representative. He has also been a member of the Brazil PolioPlus Committee and served several times as an RI president’s representative. Barry is CEO and chair of Doctors Hospital Health System in the Bahamas. He is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, director and past chair of Project Read Bahamas, director and past chair of the Bahamas Quality Council, and honorary president of the Star of the Bahamas Charity Guide. A Rotarian since 1980, he has served RI as a district governor, district trainer, committee chair, RI president’s representative, training leader, and zone coordinator. He has also been a representative to the Council on Legislation and an International Assembly Leaders’ Seminar trainer. Bernard Rosen is a founder, board member, and president of the executive committee with Trade Credit Re, a Belgian insurance company encompassing eight European countries. A Rotarian since 1984, Bernard is a member of the Rotary Club of Bruxelles. He has served Rotary International as district governor and served his district as district trainer and public relations chair. Yoshimasa Watanabe
2006-08, Japan

Yoshimasa chairs the Satoh Eye Clinic and is a visiting professor of ophthalmology at Okayama University Medical School. He serves on the council committee of the International Strabismological Association and is a member of the board of the Okayama Prefectural Medical Association. A Rotarian since 1965, Yoshimasa has served RI as a district governor, training leader, committee member and vice chair, and regional Rotary Foundation coordinator. He is a recipient of the RI Service Above Self Award and The Rotary Foundation’s Citation for Meritorious Service. Edwin H. Futa
USA

General secretary of Rotary International since July 2000, Ed came to Rotary from Hawaii, where he was president of an international marketing consulting firm. Active in youth ministry, he also served on the board of governors of the YMCA and as a mediator in the Neighborhood Justice Center of Honolulu. A Rotarian since 1979, Ed is a member of the Rotary Club of East Honolulu.
