Rotary International Board of Directors

 
 

T he RI Board of Directors is the administrative body of Rotary International. Its members include the RI president, president-elect, vice president, treasurer, and the Rotary general secretary. Directors are nominated by Rotary clubs and elected to two-year terms at the RI Convention.


President

Kalyan Banerjee
Rotary Club of Vapi, Gujarat, India (2011-12)

Kalyan Banerjee is a director of United Phosphorus Limited, India’s largest agrochemical manufacturer, and chair of United Phosphorus (Bangladesh) Limited.

President-elect

Sakuji Tanaka
Rotary Club of Yashio, Saitama, Japan (2012-12) 

Sakuji Tanaka was chair of the Daika Company and president of the National Household Papers Distribution Association of Japan. He also has been vice president of the Yashio City Chamber of Commerce. Sakuji has served Rotary as a director, Rotary Foundation trustee, regional Rotary Foundation coordinator, and training leader. He was chair of the 2009 Birmingham Convention Committee and the Permanent Fund Committee for Japan, and served on the Polio Eradication Advocacy Task Force and Future Vision Committee. Working with his district, Sakuji helped to construct a school building in Bangladesh, and he has established an endowed Rotary Peace Fellowship. He has received the RI Service Above Self Award and the Foundation’s Distinguished Service Award. Sakuji and his wife, Kyoko, are Benefactors and Major Donors.

Noel A. Bajat
Rotary Club of Abbeville, Louisiana, USA (2010-12)

Noel A. Bajat is president and director of Abbeville Building and Loan. He is a director of Goodwill Industries of Acadiana and has served as organizing director and first president of the Neighborhood Housing Services of Lafayette, as well as chamber of commerce president. He has received the Mayor’s Distinguished Service Award and the Personalities of the South Award. Noel, a member of the International PolioPlus Committee, has served Rotary as a Permanent Fund national adviser and regional Rotary Foundation coordinator, and has received the Foundation’s Distinguished Service Award. He and his wife, Sis, are Major Donors, Benefactors, and charter members of the Bequest Society.


Treasurer

Elio Cerini
Rotary Club of Milano Duomo, Italy (2010-12)

Elio Cerini is the former chair of ITL SpA, the editorial society of the Diocese of Milano. He served for nine years with Banca Popolare di Milano and for 25 years in management with Sperry Univac. He is the founder and chair of Fondazione Gabriele, which provides housing to senior citizens, and founder and president of OVCI, which works with children with disabilities in countries such as Brazil, China, Morocco, and Sudan. He also founded St. Mary’s University in Southern Sudan. Elio has served Rotary as a member of the Strategic Planning Committee, president’s representative, and regional Rotary Foundation coordinator.

José Antonio F. Antiório
Rotary Club of Osasco, São Paulo, Brazil (2011-13) 

José Antiório is a school administrator and president of Padre Anchieta School. He has served as vice president of the Association of Public Schools and the Municipal Council of Education in São Paulo, government secretary for education, and president of the YMCA of São Paulo. José has served Rotary as a member of the Permanent Fund Committee for Latin America, regional Rotary International membership coordinator, president’s representative, and district membership development chair. He has received the RI Service Above Self Award and is a Rotary Foundation Major Donor. José and his wife, Ana Lúcia, live in São Paulo.

Kenneth R. Boyd
Rotary Club of Kerman, California, USA (2011-13)

Kenneth Boyd is a real estate professional at Boyd Company Realtors and was the 2002 California State Businessman of the Year. Ken has served Rotary as a committee member, regional Rotary Foundation coordinator, Council on Legislation representative, president’s representative, and district trainer. He has traveled to dozens of countries on behalf of Rotary and spoken at several conferences on peace. As president of his club, he oversaw a project that established paramedic services in Kerman and surrounding communities. He is a recipient of the RI Service Above Self Award and the Foundation’s Distinguished Service Award. He and his wife, Susan, are Major Donors.

Yash Pal Das
Rotary Club of Ambala, India (2011-13)

Yash Pal Das is the chief executive officer of a family-owned car dealership and has served as an executive officer in the Indian Merchant Navy. He is a member of the Indian Roads and Transport Development Association, the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations, and the Society for the Hearing Impaired. Yash has served Rotary as an India PolioPlus Committee member, regional Rotary Foundation coordinator, president’s representative, training leader, and Group Study Exchange team leader. He has received the Foundation’s Citation for Meritorious Service and the Regional Service Award for a Polio-Free World. He and his wife, Manju, are Major Donors.

Elizabeth S. Demaray
Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, USA (2011-13)

Elizabeth Demaray, is a commercial real estate broker who has owned several businesses. She is a past president of her community’s United Way and Board of Realtors and is a trustee of the Lake Superior State University Foundation and the War Memorial Hospital Board. In the 1980s, she was named one of the top five female entrepreneurs in Michigan. She has served Rotary as a committee and task force member, regional Rotary International membership coordinator, and training leader. Betsy and her husband, Ken, are Benefactors of The Rotary Foundation and Bequest Society members. They have hosted six exchange students and were part of a Carl P. Miller Discovery Grant mission to Jamaica.

Kenneth W. Grabeau
Rotary Club of Nashua West, New Hampshire, USA (2010-12)

Kenneth W. Grabeau is founder and CEO of Monarch Instrument and past president of Pure Water for the World. He and his wife, Ruth, also a Rotarian, provided relief in Central America after Hurricane Mitch, establishing a multidistrict aid committee. Ken has served Rotary as a committee and task force member, training leader, and Permanent Fund national adviser. He is a charter member of the Water and Sanitation Rotarian Action Group and a recipient of the RI Service Above Self Award and The Rotary Foundation Citation for Meritorious Service. Ken and his wife, Ruth, are Major Donors, Benefactors, and charter members of the Bequest Society.

Stuart B. Heal
Rotary Club of Cromwell, New Zealand (2010-12)

Stuart B. Heal served as CEO of New Zealand’s largest agricultural supply cooperative for 20 years. He is now self-employed as a business mentor and director of a number of companies across sectors, including manufacturing, power generation, wine, health, retail, and forestry. He joined Rotary after a Group Study Exchange to Nigeria in 1987. Stuart has served Rotary as a committee chair and vice chair, member of the 2007 Salt Lake City Convention Committee, and training leader. He was awarded The Rotary Foundation Citation for Meritorious Service. Stuart and his wife, Adrienne, also a Rotarian, have hosted five Rotary Youth Exchange students.

Allan O. Jagger
Rotary Club of Elland, England (2011-13)

Allan Jagger has several business interests, mainly in the mechanical engineering field. He has served for 25 years as director -- and, for the past 14 years, as chair -- of a charity that provides work-based learning and education services for young people in West Yorkshire. Allan is a past president of Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland. He has served Rotary as RIBI Foundation Committee chair, regional Rotary Foundation coordinator, Rotary’s US$200 Million Challenge Committee member, and host area coordinator at the Rotary Peace Center at the University of Bradford. He has received the Foundation’s Distinguished Service Award. Allan and his wife, Rose, are Major Donors and Bequest Society members.

Paul Knyff
Rotary Club of Weesp (Vechtstreek-Noord), The Netherlands (2011-13) 

Paul Knyff is a mediator and coach who has worked in the pharmaceutical industry. A former partner in a veterinary clinic, he has served as editor of a scientific veterinary periodical and as treasurer of the Dutch Veterinary History Society. Paul began his association with Rotary in 1970 as a Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholar, studying at University College Nairobi in Kenya, and became a Rotarian a decade later. Paul has served as editor of the regional magazine De Rotarian and has been a regional Rotary International membership coordinator and president’s representative. He is a Paul Harris Fellow. Paul and his wife, Rita, have three children and one grandchild.

Masaomi Kondo
Rotary Club of Senri, Osaka, Japan (2010-12)

Masaomi Kondo is a professor emeritus at Osaka University and the president of the Chemicals Evaluation and Research Institute and the Jikei Education Science Center. He has served as a Fulbright Exchange researcher at the University of Texas, dean of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Osaka University, and council member in several ministries of the Japanese government. Masa has served Rotary as an adviser to Rotary’s US$200 Million Challenge Committee, president’s representative, and district trainer. He has received The Rotary Foundation Citation for Meritorious Service and is a Benefactor and Paul Harris Fellow. He and his wife, Sumiko, live in Amagasaki.

Barry Matheson
Rotary Club of Jessheim , Norway (2010-12)

Barry Matheson founded Continental Artist Management AS in 1969 and has managed some of Norway’s most successful performing artists as the company’s CEO. He is a board member of music industry associations including Music Export Norway and the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, where he has served for 19 years. Barry has served Rotary as a president’s representative, Council on Legislation representative, and training leader. He is a recipient of The Rotary Foundation Distinguished Service Award and is a Major Donor and Benefactor. Barry and his wife, Berit, live in Jessheim.

Shekhar Mehta
Rotary Club of Calcutta-Mahanagar, West Bengal, India (2011-13)

Shekhar Mehta is an accountant and chair of the Skyline Group, a real estate development company. He has been actively involved in disaster management and worked to build 500 homes after the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. Shekhar has also helped establish hospitals in Hooghly and Kolkata, and he chairs the Healing Little Hearts charity, which has facilitated nearly 250 heart surgeries for children. He has served Rotary as a committee and task force member, resource group zone coordinator, training leader, and district Rotary Foundation committee chair. Shekhar has received the RI Service Above Self Award and the Foundation’s Distinguished Service Award. He and his wife, Rashi, live in Kolkata.

Samuel F. Owori
Rotary Club of Kampala, Uganda (2010-12) 

Samuel F. Owori is a banker and the CEO of the Institute of Corporate Governance of Uganda. He is chair of the Centre for African Family Studies and a director of several health care organizations. He has been executive director of the African Development Bank, managing director of the Uganda Commercial Bank, and secretary of the Uganda Bankers Association. Sam has served Rotary as an RI representative to the United Nations and as a member of the African PolioPlus Committee and the Reach Out to Africa Eastern Africa Subcommittee. He is a Paul Harris Fellow and a Benefactor of The Rotary Foundation. He and his wife, Norah, live in Kampala.

Juin Park
Rotary Club of Suncheon, Jeonranam, Korea (2011-13)

Juin Park is an attorney, practicing general law. He has been a public prosecutor for the Korean government and a legal adviser for POSCO Ltd., a steel manufacturer. Juin has served Rotary as a member of the Election Review Committee and Membership Development Task Force, as well as a Literacy Resource Group zone coordinator, Council on Legislation representative, president’s representative, and training leader. Juin is a Major Donor to The Rotary Foundation and a Bequest Society member. He and his wife, Soon Ja Cho, live in Jeonranam.

Rotary Club of Decatur, Alabama, USA (2011-13)

Kenneth Schuppert is an attorney at the law firm Blackburn, Maloney, and Schuppert LLC. He is a trustee and vice chair of Parkway Medical Center and has been president of the Decatur Jaycees, vice president of the Tennessee Valley Council of the Greater Alabama Council of the Boy Scouts of America, and president of the Old Decatur Historic Association. Ken has served Rotary as a Communications Committee member, Council on Legislation representative, and president’s representative. He has received The Rotary Foundation Distinguished Service Award. Rotary Club of Naples, Florida, USA (2010-12)

John C. Smarge is the owner and president of Ray the Mover, a moving and storage company he purchased at the age of 22 that is now the largest relocation business in southwest Florida. John has served Rotary as a committee member, regional Rotary Foundation coordinator, president’s representative, and Council on Legislation representative. He counts National Immunization Days in India, medical missions to Ukraine, and humanitarian trips to the Caribbean among his most rewarding experiences in Rotary. John has received The Rotary Foundation Distinguished Service Award and the RI Service Above Self Award. He and his wife, Cindy, are Major Donors and Bequest Society members.
