Guidelines for submitting news tips
The Rotarian welcomes specific ideas, suggestions, tips, and information from Rotarians in the field. Before submitting materials for consideration, please read the guidelines below.
Editorial ideas
The story ideas we receive from Rotarians most often appear in our Field Reports section. The best items focus on Rotarians’ work in the field and highlight successful, innovative programs and efforts at the club and district levels, including World Community Service projects and international projects that receive funding from The Rotary Foundation. Field Reports is also the place for stories about Interact and Rotaract projects and short personal profiles of Rotarians, scholarship and grant recipients, and Rotary Youth Exchange students.
For the editors to consider your idea, send
• A summary statement of no more than 250 words providing basic information only (who, what, where, why, when, how)
• Day or evening phone numbers and e-mail addresses (if applicable) of at least three Rotarians, community partners, or project beneficiaries who can provide more information
• Copies of related news stories, press releases, or promotional materials (if applicable)
Although we cannot publicize or promote events before they occur, we encourage timely submissions on recently completed events. Please note that we must receive stories at least four months before their intended publication (i.e., we must receive materials to be considered for January publication no later than 1 September).
We prefer not to receive unsolicited narratives or manuscripts. If you’re considering submitting such a story, we strongly encourage you to first contact the editors. rotarian@rotary.org
Where to submit story ideas and photos

Photographs
We prefer color photos depicting Rotarians or project beneficiaries participating in hands-on activities. We have little interest in photos of presentations, meetings, or handshakes. Black-and-white images may be acceptable on a case-by-case basis.
We accept original prints (no color photocopies) and slides, as well as digital photos via e-mail or on CD-ROM or disk. If you plan to submit digitally, please ensure that your photo meets the following specifications:
• At least 300 dpi (your camera’s highest setting)
• At least 5 x 7 inches (at 300 dpi, this converts to a 10MB file)
• TIFF or JPG file format only (we cannot accept photos embedded in Microsoft Word or PowerPoint documents, PDFs, or e-mails)
The Rotarian is not responsible for unsolicited photographs and cannot guarantee their return.
